Fit Index for Kansas CityKansas City ranked 36th in the 10th annual American Fitness Index released last week by the American College of Sports Medicine and the Anthem Foundation. While 36 may not seem too bad, what’s alarming is that our city dropped six spots since last year.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the survey results.

Exercise

74.5% – People reporting any exercise in the last 30 days
80.5% – Target Goal

50.1% – People meeting CDC aerobic activity exercise guidelines
60.6% – Target Goal

Eating Well

23.1% – People consuming 2+ fruits per day

High Blood Pressure

33.9% – People with high blood pressure

One in three Clay and Platte County residents lives with high blood pressure. Also known as hypertension, it’s considered a silent killer because most people don’t experience symptoms. Regular screenings are the best prevention. Fr blood pressure screenings are available at all three Meritas Health Express locations. High blood pressure is a treatable condition with the right care and management plan.

Heart Disease
