I found North Kansas City Bariatric Center via internet search. I was glad to find a program north of the river that included everything in one package and one place: a very experienced surgeon, a nutritionist, a psychiatrist, a support system. I initially thought I would do Lap band, but after consultations with Dr. Bergoff and his team, we decided that gastric bypass was the best option for me…. and so this part of my story begins:

Surgery day is what I consider day 1 of the rest of my life. My surgery took about an hour longer than normal due to some enlarged liver issues, but Dr. Berghoff was able to successfully perform my laparoscopic surgery. Of course, with pain medication on board, I felt good coming out of surgery. By late the night of surgery, the nurses got me up and I began walking, short distance at first, lengthening my walk each time.

From here on out, I’ll post about my daily experiences post surgery. Stay tuned!
